About
The Man Behind the Report: Richard A. Ryles, Esq.
Welcome to TheRylesReport.com, the digital headquarters for the work, words, and wisdom of Richard A. Ryles.
Richard is more than an attorney. He is a truth-teller, a community anchor, and a dedicated guardian of Black History. A native of West Palm Beach with family roots stretching back to 1820, Richard has spent his life navigating and challenging the social and legal boundaries of the American South.
A Legacy of Excellence
Before he was a fixture in the courtroom, Richard was a standout athlete. He was a state track champion and a high school and college football star. He carried that same competitive fire to Howard University, where he earned his law degree before returning home to establish the first Black-owned law firm in West Palm Beach.
Throughout his career, Richard has been a champion for justice in its most tangible forms:
Legal Landmark: He participated in the Rosewood Claims Act (House Bill 591) reparations litigation on behalf of the survivors and descendants of the 1923 Rosewood Massacre.
Public Service: He is a former West Palm Beach City Commissioner and current head of the Palm Beach County Black Caucus.
Community Building: He founded the Black Unity Coalition and co-founded All Real Men Read, a program dedicated to promoting literacy among young Black men.
The Debut Novel: The Immortal Jim Crow
Richard’s debut work, “The Immortal Jim Crow: Growing Up Under the System that Still Haunts Us Today,” serves as the literary heartbeat of this site. This book blends deeply personal memoir with sharp social commentary. Richard explores his journey growing up in the 1960s as one of the few Black families in a deed-restricted “white” neighborhood.
Through The Immortal Jim Crow, Richard argues that while the laws may have changed, the culture of segregation and systemic exclusion has merely evolved. It is a raw, necessary look at why our history refuses to stay in the past and how it continues to impact our present.
